Wooden Crosses. Ink on book pages. 2009
Illustrations inspired by the film Wooden Crosses (1932) by Raymond Bernard. Also in the mail today I got a copy of Art Against War by Bruckner, Chwast and Heller. A truly amazing book representing many of my favorite artists: George Grosz, Jacques Callot, Francisco Goya, William Blake, Reginald Marsh, and of coarse Otto Dix.

These Drawings were inspired by the documentary Harlan County U.S.A. cica 1976. The documentary depicts the struggles of working families living in poor housing while working in hazardous conditions. Everyone should see this film. Its has as much relevance today as it did then.
